Ram 5500 Locking Fuel Door: Direct-Fit Bolt-On Fuel Security
The Ram 5500 is a workhorse chassis cab platform trusted by municipalities, contractors, tow operators, and fleet managers across North America. But like every factory-delivered chassis cab, the Ram 5500 ships with nothing more than a flimsy spring-loaded fuel door — zero security against siphoning, contamination, or tampering. Gas Protector's locking fuel door replaces that vulnerability with a keyed, tamper-resistant security point in under 15 minutes.

Why the Ram 5500 Needs a Locking Fuel Door
The Ram 5500 carries a standard 52-gallon diesel tank. At current diesel prices, that is $200–$260 worth of fuel sitting behind an unlocked plastic flap. Ram chassis cabs are commonly used in high-theft scenarios:
Tow & Recovery
Tow trucks sit in open lots and respond to roadside calls at all hours. Their exposed fuel tanks are easy pickings for organized theft rings.
Municipal Fleets
City and county Ram 5500s parked in fleet yards or on the street overnight. Even fenced yards get breached — internal theft by employees is also common.
Contractor Job Sites
Ram 5500 dump trucks, crane trucks, and service bodies parked at active construction sites are vulnerable to after-hours siphoning.
Agricultural Operations
Farm and ranch Ram 5500s parked in remote locations with no security cameras or fencing. Easy targets for rural fuel theft.
Gas Protector Locking Fuel Door — Built for the Ram Chassis Cab

The Gas Protector locking fuel door replaces the factory fuel filler housing on Ram chassis cabs with a heavy-duty, keyed security door. Same bolt pattern, same mounting points — no drilling, no cutting, no permanent modification.
Ram 5500 Installation — Under 15 Minutes
- 1Remove the factory fuel door assembly (Phillips or small socket)
- 2Align the Gas Protector mounting plate with existing holes
- 3Secure with included Torx security fasteners (Torx bit included)
- 4Test the lock with both keys — done
Upfitter Body Compatibility
The locking fuel door mounts to the cab, not the upfitter body. It works with every body type on a Ram chassis:
Ram 5500 Locking Fuel Door FAQ
What model years of Ram 5500 does this fit?
The Gas Protector locking fuel door fits Ram 3500, 4500, and 5500 chassis cabs across all model years. The fuel filler housing location and mounting pattern is consistent across the Ram commercial lineup. Contact us at 941-541-0089 to confirm fitment for unusual configurations.
Can I order keyed-alike for my Ram fleet?
Yes. Fleet managers can order any quantity keyed alike so one master key opens every truck. This simplifies driver key management and fuel accountability. Contact us for fleet pricing.
Does it work on Ram ProMaster or Ram 1500/2500?
Currently, our locking fuel door is designed for Ram 3500, 4500, and 5500 chassis cabs. The Ram ProMaster and Ram 1500/2500 use a different fuel filler design.
What if my Ram 5500 has an aftermarket auxiliary fuel tank?
The locking fuel door replaces the primary fuel filler housing. Aftermarket auxiliary tanks with separate fillers are not affected. If your auxiliary tank shares the factory filler neck, contact us to discuss options.
Is the locking fuel door Cummins-compatible?
Yes. The locking fuel door works with every engine option on the Ram chassis cab, including the 6.7L Cummins diesel and the 6.4L HEMI gas engine. It replaces the fuel filler housing, not the tank or fuel system.
